Skin fungal infections affect a large number of people. They are caused by an invading fungus that infects an area of the body, while symptoms may include (but are not limited to) redness, irritation, itching, chafing, burning or dry peeling of the skin in the infected area, etc.

Most fungal infections are typically mild in nature and non-life-threatening, however, some of them may be contagious. Most typical types of fungal infections are athlete’s foot, ringworm, nail fungus, yeast infection, oral thrush, and diaper rash.

Risk factors for fungal infections of the skin include direct contact with infected people (or animals / objects), excessive sweating, frequent use of public showers or community pools, wearing tightly fitted clothes or tight shoes, and having a weakened immune system.

As  fungus grows best in a warm and moist environment, fungal infections are most common in the summer and in warm, humid climates.
