Gynecological Examination

A gynecological examination is an essential medical procedure for evaluating the health of the female reproductive system.

The purpose of the gynecological examination is the prevention, diagnosis, and monitoring of possible conditions such as infections, ovarian cysts, fibroids, sexually transmitted diseases, malignancies, etc. Additionally, the gynecological examination helps in detecting and addressing problems related to menstruation, fertility, contraception, and more.

The clinical examination of the genital area is recommended regularly, especially for women over the age of 21 or those who are sexually active.

Benefits of the Examination

  • Awareness: Provides information about reproductive health and contraception.
  • Early Diagnosis: Identifies potential health issues early.
  • Prevention: Helps prevent serious conditions, such as cervical cancer.

During the gynecological examination, the doctor asks the patient to lie on a special examination table with her legs supported. Initially, a visual inspection of the external genitalia is performed to detect lesions or symptoms.

Next, the doctor carefully inserts a specialized tool (speculum) into the vagina to visually examine the vaginal walls and the cervix, checking for signs of irritation, unusual discharge, or indications of a sexually transmitted disease. Finally, the doctor performs palpation to assess potential issues concerning the internal reproductive organs and ovaries.

As part of the examination, the doctor will ask a series of questions about the patient’s family history, current health status, menstrual cycle, sexual activity, STD prevention, and more. It is important to answer honestly so the doctor can assess the results in the best possible way.
