BREAST REDUCTION

Breast reduction (also known as reduction mammoplasty), is a plastic surgery procedure for reducing breast size.

The specific surgery occurs for aesthetic as well as for functional reasons, as large sized breasts often cause a woman discomfort, pain, and even musculoskeletal disorders.

Breast reduction, not only decreases the size of the breasts, but also reshapes and lifts them, in order to correct the drooping and to offer a youthful appearance.

During breast reduction , the surgeon carefully removes some of the tissue and skin from the breasts in order to reshape them and reduce their size.

The surgical technique used to reduce the size of your breasts may vary. Depending on the case, the procedure might include liposuction to remove the excess fat in the breasts, repositions of the nipple – areola, or areola size reduction.

Breast reduction surgery can make the breasts smaller, lighter, firmer, and more evenly proportioned, relieving the physical discomfort and pain caused by large breasts.

The surgery is performed under a general anesthetic, in order to ensure both maximal operating conditions and patient safety and comfort. The surgical procedure typically lasts 2 – 4 hours. Usually, an overnight stay is required.

There are various reasons for breast reduction, ranging from health concerns to cosmetic interests.

Large breasts can lead to neck, back and shoulder issues, that may impair a woman’s ability to live an active lifestyle. Furthermore, with breast reduction, a woman’s breasts can be reformed in a better size and shape, increasing her body self-confidence.

Candidates must be over 18 years old and not be pregnant or breastfeeding.

The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and lasts 2-4 hours, depending on the case.

The degree of breast reduction depends on the woman’s desire and medical factors evaluated by the surgeon.

In order to determine your ideal size and shape, a consultation will be very helpful, as we will analyse both the reasons you want the surgery and your expectations. During your visit, you will have the opportunity to raise all your concerns with the doctor, and learn any details related to the change you wish to make and the procedure. Then, we will discuss a plan to achieve your desired look and feel.

Postoperatively, the patient stays in the hospital for one night and returns home the next morning.

Modern plastic surgery techniques have greatly reduced the degree of patient discomfort. However, because breast reduction is still an operation, we may experience some pain after the surgery. This pain is treated with painkillers and soon subsides within a few days.

After the breast reduction surgery and for a period of 20 to 30 days, the breast is tender. During this time the patient  needs to wear a special sports bra, and it is recommended that she avoids physical exercise and sexual intercourse. The sutures are removed about 2 weeks after the surgery.
The patient may return to work after a few days. If her work requires physical exercise, an additional 7-10 days of recovery are needed.

The cost depends on the technique used.

At VF Laser Clinics we treat the problem in a completely personalised way, in order to reduce the costs for the patient as much as possible.

Modern breast reduction techniques offer a completely natural result and now have a short postoperative stage.
