During breast reduction , the surgeon carefully removes some of the tissue and skin from the breasts in order to reshape them and reduce their size.
The surgical technique used to reduce the size of your breasts may vary. Depending on the case, the procedure might include liposuction to remove the excess fat in the breasts, repositions of the nipple – areola, or areola size reduction.
Breast reduction surgery can make the breasts smaller, lighter, firmer, and more evenly proportioned, relieving the physical discomfort and pain caused by large breasts.
The surgery is performed under a general anesthetic, in order to ensure both maximal operating conditions and patient safety and comfort. The surgical procedure typically lasts 2 – 4 hours. Usually, an overnight stay is required.

Recovery time may vary substantially depending on the surgery method used, and on the amount of tissue and skin removed. As a result, some women could be able to return to their work in a few days, while others might need up to 14 days after their procedure.
Generally, a woman should rest as much as possible for the first week, and then gradually increase her activities. For the first 2 weeks she should avoid some movements (lying on her abdomen, avoid raising her arms over her head, etc.). She should also avoid any strenuous exercising or heavy lifting for some time.
