Hysteroscopy
Hysteroscopy is a medical procedure recommended in cases where there are concerns about uterine health. It provides gynecologists with a direct way to examine the inside of the uterus, diagnose any pathological conditions, and intervene with precision when necessary.
Diagnostic hysteroscopy is used in a range of medical cases, such as unexplained bleeding, suspected intrauterine pathology, possible intrauterine adhesions, fertility issues with recurrent unsuccessful pregnancies, assessment of uterine anatomy before surgical procedures, and more.
Operative hysteroscopy may be necessary for the removal of fibroids protruding into the uterine cavity, the treatment of intrauterine adhesions, the removal of endometrial polyps, the correction of congenital uterine abnormalities, and more.
The Benefits of Hysteroscopic Surgery
- Diagnosis: Allows a detailed examination of the uterine cavity to detect abnormalities.
- Minimally Invasive: A short and simple medical procedure with quick recovery.
- Wide Range of Applications: Enables simultaneous correction of various medical conditions (e.g., fibroids and polyps).
- Fertility Improvement: Can increase pregnancy chances by restoring uterine anatomy.

Hysteroscopy is performed using a thin, illuminated tube called a hysteroscope, which is inserted through the vagina and cervix into the uterus. After preparing the patient, the doctor inserts the hysteroscope to directly visualize the inner surface of the uterus for diagnostic purposes. The procedure can be carried out in a clinic or hospital setting, with local or general anesthesia, depending on the case.
Additionally, when deemed necessary, the gynecologist can proceed with interventional treatments during the same procedure, such as the removal of polyps or a biopsy.
Recovery after interventional hysteroscopy is quick, and the postoperative course is usually mild. Since no incisions are made, the patient can typically return home just a few hours after the procedure.

Hysteroscopy is generally not painful for patients. Anesthesia is used to minimize discomfort during the procedure.
After the hysteroscopy, some discomfort or pain similar to menstrual cramps may occur, along with low abdominal cramps. If necessary, painkillers and antibiotics may be prescribed for a few days.
The procedure usually lasts 15-30 minutes, depending on the complexity of the condition.
Most women can return to their daily activities within one or two days. It is recommended to refrain from sexual intercourse and tampon use for a few days. The procedure does not affect the patient’s menstrual cycle.
