GENIOPLASTY - CHIN CORRECTION SURGERY
Genioplasty, also known as chinoplasty, is a cosmetic procedure that aims to reconstruct the size and shape of the chin.
The main indications for this procedure are directly related to the degree of hypoplasia or hypertrophy of the chin. Depending on the problem (atrophy or hypertrophy) and the person’s request, we either increase the projection of the chin by placing an implant, or we decrease it.
Because the size of the chin affects the appearance of the nose, it is not rare that genioplasty is combined with rhinoplasty to create the ideal profile.
BENEFITS OF GENIOPLASTY
- Aesthetic reconstructing of the shape and size of the chin.
- Restoration of any deformities.
- Safe procedure, without any scars.
- Permanent result.

Augmentation genioplasty
According to research, augmentation genioplasty is a cosmetic procedure that is performed much more often than reduction surgery.
Depending on the facial characteristics and the degree of the chin’s atrophy of each candidate for augmentation genioplasty, the appropriate implant can vary in size (from small to extra large). For this reason, during the doctor’s visits before the surgery, various sizes of implants are tested externally, in order to choose the best one.
During the procedure, the surgeon makes a small intraoral incision at the border of the mandibular gum and the lower lip mucosa. He/She then inserts the implant and places it in its final position.
Augmentation genioplasty is performed under local anesthesia and mild sedation.
Reductive genioplasty
Reductive genioplasty can be performed with 2 techniques, depending on the problem. The first technique , called surgical correction with a straight silicone graft, is an operation where through 2 very small incisions of one millimeter, the genial muscle is released and the depth of the groove is reduced, while a silicone graft is placed in the space created. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and mild sedation.
The second technique is much more complex. Before the procedure, various tests are performed (cephalometric analysis, orthodontic study, etc.). During the invasive procedure, an ostectomy is performed to reduce the size of the lower jaw, while in some cases an osteosynthesis may be required. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia.
Chin augmentation is performed on adults who want to change the shape and size of their chin for aesthetic reasons. Most often It concerns women and men with a severe problem of atrophy or hypertrophy of the chin.
You can discuss your aspirations with our specially trained cosmetic surgeons and learn the ways this procedure could be able to benefit you.
Both the augmentation and the reductive genioplasty with a straight silicone graft are performed under local anesthesia.
Reductive genioplasty with ostectomy is performed under general anesthesia.
In both augmentation and reductive genioplasty with a straight silicone graft, the patient can return home a few hours after the procedure. The sutures are removed in a week.
As far as augmentation genioplasty is concerned, a special bandage is applied to the area for 48 hours.
Reductive genioplasty with osteotomy requires the patient to stay in the clinic.
Both the augmentation and the reductive genioplasty with a straight silicone graft are performed with modern invasive methods and are well tolerated postoperatively.
During the first 10 days, the patient needs to use an antiseptic mouthwash and eat soft foods. He/She can return to work in 5 to 7 days.
Reductive genioplasty with ostectomy requires a much longer healing period.
The cost depends on the type of procedure (augmentation or reduction) and the extent of the problem.
At VF Laser Clinics we treat the problem in a completely individualized way, in order to reduce the costs for the patient as much as possible.
Therefore, costs are determined according to individual needs, and may vary for the same area for different people.
The simulation program that we use at VF Laser Clinics offers a detailed visualization of the facial image depending on the type and size of the implant.
This gives both the doctor and the patient the opportunity to objectively decide which implant is most appropriate each time.
